Dance is for everyBODY!

Toledo Ballet Adaptive Dance offers differently-abled individuals specialized adaptive dance instruction. Students with neurodivergent learning styles, such as Down syndrome and autism, can experience the sheer joy of dance and music. Students reap many other important benefits, including improvement in coordination, fitness, balance, focus, listening, self-esteem, self-expression, positive social connections, rhythm, and musicality. Adaptive Dance Director and Toledo Ballet faculty member, Ann Heckler, is dedicated to creating a positive learning environment and helping each student develop his/her own self-confidence and freedom of expression. Toledo Ballet is excited to offer more progressive levels.

Inclusion Dance

The Inclusion Dance program is open to all dancers, including students with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities. Small class size and trained, skilled support staff will allow each dancer to thrive and express themselves through movement. This class will focus on the fundamentals of dance to teach students dance steps, rhythm, and dancing together as a group.

Choreography Skills

For dancers with physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities who can follow choreography independently without support staff. Musicality, memorization and sequencing of steps into more complex combinations, & balance and coordination of arm and leg movements are progressive skills covered in this class. This class is by placement only and is geared towards students who have had some dance experience.  New students will need to take a trial Inclusion Dance class to be evaluated for placement in Choreography Skills.  A performance opportunity is available for enrolled students at the end of the school year.
