Robert Clemens has been a member of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra since 1986, performing in the cello section and as a featured soloist in Masterworks, Family, Regional, and Neighborhood series concerts. He has also performed with the Symphony’s String Quartet and Chamber Players, and served on both the Orchestra and Artistic Advisory Committees. A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in Performance Studies, Clemens is known for his versatility across musical styles, including Pre-Baroque, Jazz, and electronic music. He has appeared as a Rock and Jazz soloist with the Toledo Symphony and is a passionate advocate for cross-cultural musical experiences, especially string improvisation. Outside the Symphony, he performs with Michigan Opera Theater, The Cassini Ensemble, The Chicago Cello Quartet, and other regional orchestras. He maintains a private teaching studio in Toledo and is active in the Symphony’s educational outreach, including serving as Narrator and Host for Live Art Toledo’s Young People’s Concerts.
