Hi! My name is Jaewoo and I teach trombone and euphonium at the School of Music. I've taught students ranging from 4th grade to adult and from beginner to advanced for many years, and I really enjoy helping students experience the wonder of creating music; it's such a fun and rewarding experience to learn a new skill and produce beautiful sounds out of nowhere!
I grew up in California, went to Baylor University for my undergraduate degree and Indiana University for my master's. After a year of teaching and performing in several regional orchestras across Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois, I won the Second Trombone position in the Toledo Symphony and moved here in 2024! I'm really enjoying my time at the TSO, and I'm looking forward to passing down the wonderful skills and knowledge that I use at work with my students.
Lessons with me are different depending on the student's personality, age, and skill level; what works for some folks definitely doesn't work for others! However, I have a few guidelines that I stick by regardless of student. I treat my students with respect, kindness, and honesty, because I value earning and keeping a student's trust and comfort above all else. I also value keeping lessons light and fun; learning a new skill is challenging and hard work, and I want to make sure students are enjoying their time in lessons by engaging in their interests, both musical and nonmusical!
Speaking of interests, I enjoy watching sports, cooking, video games, watching shows, and reading. I also rock climb, play pickleball (poorly), and basketball (poorly). I listen to a lot of classical music, and a decent variety of non-classical music, and I love sharing music with my students and hearing what they're listening to!
