2026-2027 Season

TSYO Audition Information

Welcome to TSYO!

The TSYO traditionally draws the most talented young musicians from northwest Ohio and southern Michigan. For the 2026-2027 season, there are three orchestral ensembles: the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra, and the Concert Strings. 

All auditions for TSYO will be recorded live and in person at the Toledo Center for Live Arts. Auditions must be completed by May 30. Required repertoire will be sent upon completion of the Audition Application Form or upon request. TSYO Ensemble Audition Requirements

PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA 

(Students will prepare three selections)

A Solo piece selected by the student which demonstrates current level of playing and is less than 4 minutes in length

Etude - All students will learn the same required etude for their instrument 

Orchestra Excerpt - All students will learn the same required excerpt(s) for their instrument 

SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA 

(Students will prepare two selections) 

A Solo piece selected by the student which demonstrates current level of playing and is less than 4 minutes in length

Etude - All students will learn the same required etude for their instrument

CONCERT STRINGS 

(Students will prepare two selections, and the audition will include a short sightreading component) 

A Solo piece selected by the student which demonstrates current level of playing and is at least 16 measures long and less than 3 minutes in length.

Concert Strings Excerpt - All students will learn the same required Concert Strings excerpt for their instrument 

All Percussion Students: the audition requirements for percussion are the etude and excerpt only. Please do not prepare a solo. 

Placements

Students will be placed based on their auditions in the most appropriate level orchestra and seating availability.  

Submitting a Philharmonic audition does not guarantee placement in the Philharmonic Orchestra. Similarly, submitting a Symphonic audition does not guarantee placement in the Symphonic Orchestra.
